About us
We make small, focused apps for the Mac. Markit is one of them — a native macOS Markdown editor and reader, for the Markdown you write and for the pile your AI tools leave behind.
What Markit does
It renders as you type
Asterisks and hashes turn into bold and headings the moment you type them, and the line under the cursor stays typeset. Visual editing, raw source and reading are one shortcut apart.
A plain .md on your disk
Not a row in a database. Line endings, BOM and frontmatter are preserved byte for byte, so fixing a typo is a one-line diff — and git, iCloud and VS Code handle the file just the same.
A reader for what your AI writes
A folder of generated plans and reports becomes a folder of typeset pages, diagrams included. It follows a file while another program writes it, and a Mermaid diagram that fails to draw falls back to readable code.
Chinese typesetting, taken seriously
A 720px measure, automatic spacing between Latin and Chinese, emphasis dots instead of slanted glyphs — each one decided against a written standard, not eyeballed.
What we care about
Apps that do one job well and feel at home on macOS. For Markit, that also means a short list of things it deliberately doesn't do: no invented syntax, no accounts, no sync service, no plugin marketplace and no AI features. Your files have to open correctly in any other editor — today, and in five years.
Your writing stays on your disk
Markit collects nothing and has no networked runtime dependency — even its fonts are bundled. Whatever you write, and whatever your AI wrote for you, is never uploaded and never sent to a model. iCloud and Dropbox already sync your folder; we don't do it a second time.
Where to get it
Markit is on the Mac App Store and needs macOS 14 or later; one universal build runs on Apple silicon and Intel. Rather not install anything? The online editor runs in Chrome or Edge, mounts a folder from your disk and edits the .md files in it directly.
